Can you imagine a job where you work from home, write all day, and your earning potential is almost limitless? This is the job description of a professional blogger. A professional blogger is a person that earns their full-time income from their blog or blogs. Typically, they will own on average between 8 - 10 blogs or more and spend a good 8 hours a day or more posting several times a day for each. It is hard work in the sense of researching topics for multiple blogs and the successful bloggers today didn't achieve their success overnight.
In order to achieve success as a professional blogger there are a few basic steps to follow:
1. Good niche topics - Preferably ones that you like and have a reasonable interest in. If you're going to be posting on several different blogs and several posts each, your genuine interest in each topic will help prevent writer's block.
2. Your own unique domain & hosted CMS - You'll want to invest in your own unique domain name and content management system such as Wordpress or Movable Type. You'll want it hosted on your own server or shared hosting account. Blogs that are hosted and ran by another company don't allow you the control and flexibility you'll need as your blog grows. Not only that, but companies that control your blog can pull the plug at anytime and your investment and hard work is gone.
3. Monetization - There are several ways in which to earn money from your blog. One of the easiest and most common is by using PPC (pay-per-click) ads. These programs pay you per click just as their name states. No effort is needed on your part except in learning the best placement for your ads and the best way to display them. You can also use affiliate products or programs that pay commissions on sales made from your affiliate links. If your blog reaches superstar status, companies may even request ad space on your blog and pay you a monthly fee.
4. Quality content - You want to write for the reader and not with the intention of making gobs of money. Yes, you read it right. You have to write geniune content to attract new and loyal readers. The more you post the better. Before you know it, you'll have hundreds of pages floating in the internet and in time, people will find your blog and if it holds their interest, they will become loyal readers. It's all about building traffic. Traffic equals earning potential.
Some people make average income from their blogging efforts. Sometimes only enough to cover hosting expenses or pay for their daily cappucino habit. Others make astronomical incomes in the range $10,000 a month! Now that you have the basics in hand, you can begin thinking about some topics that you may want to blog about and be well on your way to earning income from your efforts!
